The chief aim of the research is to explore how Hungarian historical studies have dealt with the genocide committed against Hungarian Jews during the Second World War.
More specifically, the manuscript under preparation shall address the following questions:
What have been the main directions of Holocaust research over the past three-quarters of a century and who have been their main representatives?
What were the main characteristics of the various historians’ discourses?
More particularly, what approaches have been used by historians researching the subject in Hungary and abroad, what sources have they drawn on, and what specific interpretations have they provided?
To what extent did 1989 constitute a breakthrough in the study of the Holocaust in Hungary and were there perhaps other ruptures of comparable significance?
